Not Sure Which Finish to Choose? Explore Our Surface Treatments

Engineered wood flooring offers a unique combination of beauty and strength, making it a popular choice in both commercial and residential spaces. The surface treatment process is key to unlocking the full potential of your flooring, ensuring both visual appeal and lasting protection. Let’s explore the diverse treatments that can be applied to achieve the perfect look and feel.

Smoked

Our hardwood flooring undergoes a unique smoking process to achieve a range of rich, natural colors, from light to dark. The color of the wood is influenced by the duration of the smoking process—the longer the wood is smoked, the deeper and darker the color becomes. During the smoking process, the tannins in the oak react with the added ammonia, causing the wood to change color from light to dark brown, depending on the tannin content in the oak. This technique enhances the wood’s natural grain and character, providing a distinct appearance that cannot be replicated by stains or dyes.

This process can sometimes result in significant color variations. However, since we offer three sorting options (light, medium, dark), Floors4Ever ensures a consistent and harmonious overall appearance.

Handscraped

Our handscraped hardwood flooring is crafted through a traditional, artisanal process where each plank is individually shaped by skilled craftsmen. This technique involves carefully scraping the surface of the wood by hand, creating a textured, uneven finish that mimics the natural wear patterns of aged, timeworn floors. In our workshop, highly trained employees with years of experience are dedicated to hand-scraping each individual plank to ensure a uniform appearance for the entire floor. Each plank is a one-of-a-kind piece! No machine can achieve this level of craftsmanship.

The result is a beautifully unique surface with subtle grooves and variations that highlight the wood’s natural grain and character. This handscraped texture brings a sense of warmth, authenticity, and charm to any space, giving the floor a vintage, handcrafted appearance that adds depth and personality.

Brushed

Our brushed oak flooring is crafted using a specialized technique that involves wire brushing the surface of the wood. This process removes the softer spring wood fibers while leaving the harder, more resilient summer wood intact. The result is a beautifully textured surface that highlights the wood’s natural grain patterns and adds a unique character to each plank.

We offer three levels of brushing to achieve the perfect look and feel for your space:

  • Light Brushing: Provides a subtle texture that gently enhances the wood grain, adding a touch of natural character without compromising the smoothness of the surface.
  • Medium Brushing: Offers a more pronounced texture, revealing the wood’s grain patterns more prominently while still maintaining a balance between smoothness and rustic appeal.
  • Deep Brushing: Creates a highly textured surface with a distinct, rugged look by removing more of the softer wood fibers. This level of brushing offers a bold and striking appearance, ideal for those looking to make a statement with their flooring.

Each level of brushing not only brings out the wood’s inherent beauty but also increases its durability by exposing the toughest parts of the wood. This technique results in a flooring surface that is not only visually stunning but also capable of withstanding heavy use, making it a perfect choice for both residential and commercial projects.

3D Knots and Sawn Marks

Our 3D knots and sawn marks flooring is designed to celebrate the raw, natural beauty of wood. This unique finish highlights the authentic features of each plank by accentuating its natural knots and incorporating distinctive sawn marks. The result is a dynamic, textured surface that brings a sense of character and rustic charm to any interior.

3D Knots are a standout feature of this flooring style. Each knot is carefully preserved and enhanced to create a three-dimensional effect, giving the wood a rich and tactile quality. These knots reflect the natural growth patterns of the tree, adding a sense of history and authenticity to the floor. The 3D effect allows the knots to stand out visually, adding depth and an organic feel that draws the eye.

Sawn Marks are another unique element of this design. Created by leaving visible saw marks on the surface of the wood, these markings replicate the look of freshly cut timber. The saw marks give the floor a rustic, handcrafted appearance and convey the story of the wood’s journey from forest to floor. They provide a textured, lived-in look that enhances the wood’s natural grain and variations, creating a warm, inviting aesthetic.

Reactive Stain

Our innovative reactive stain technology brings out the natural beauty of wood by creating and enhancing its color from within. This process involves treating the wood with carefully selected metal salts, which interact with the wood’s inherent tannins and cellulose. This reaction mimics the natural aging and oxidization process, resulting in a unique, in-grained, aged appearance that traditional staining methods cannot replicate.

The reactive stain technique enhances the wood’s character, producing rich, deep tones that are both timeless and sophisticated. Each plank develops a distinct color variation, reflecting the wood’s natural composition and history. The result is a beautifully aged finish that adds depth, dimension, and authenticity to your flooring.

Our Double Reactive Technology takes this aging effect even further. After the initial treatment with metal salts, the process is repeated to achieve a more intensified color and highlight the individual characteristics of each plank. This second application enhances the depth and complexity of the wood’s appearance, creating a floor with a truly unique, deeply textured, and naturally aged look.

By utilizing these advanced reactive stain techniques, we offer flooring that not only captures the essence of aged wood but also ensures a one-of-a-kind aesthetic that evolves with your space, providing a distinctive, elegant foundation for any interior design.

Disturbed

The distressed look in hardwood flooring is crafted to evoke the charm and character of aged, timeworn wood. This finish is achieved through a series of deliberate techniques that create the appearance of natural wear and weathering. The wood is carefully treated to introduce various textures, markings, and imperfections, such as small dents, scratches, and knots, giving it a rugged, lived-in aesthetic.

This process mimics the look of reclaimed or antique wood that has developed its unique patina over decades of use. The distressed look enhances the wood’s natural grain and color variations, creating a floor with a warm, rustic appeal and an unmistakable sense of history. Each plank becomes a distinct piece, with its own set of marks and features that tell a story.

The distressed finish is ideal for those seeking a more relaxed, casual atmosphere in their interior design. It pairs beautifully with both traditional and contemporary settings, adding a layer of texture and interest to any room. The intentionally weathered appearance also makes it easier to hide everyday wear and tear, ensuring that the flooring continues to look beautiful and authentic over time.

With its unique combination of character, durability, and timeless style, the distressed look offers a perfect solution for creating a welcoming, comfortable space that feels both familiar and distinctive.
